BUMC Library Tutorial: How to add links to your CourseInfo site
The ability to add links to your course website is an important feature in CourseInfo. Instructions on how to properly add links to your CourseInfo site are listed below.
Remember that CourseInfo materials are subject to copyright regulations. Without explicit permission from the publisher, you CANNOT post copyrighted materials, including PDFs of journal articles, in CourseInfo. Instead, you may post a link to the electronic journal in which an article was published. For more information on copyright, please visit the Medical Library's CourseInfo and Reserves Page.
- To begin, log into your CourseInfo site at http://courseinfo.bu.edu/. Once you have logged into your site, you will see your course homepage.
- On the left side of the main page, you will see a list of links and tools used to navigate your site. Click on the link for the Control Panel.
- The Control Panel allows you to manage the content within your CourseInfo site.
Within the Control Panel, you will see a list of categories. Under the "Page Editors" section, click on the link labeled Course Documents. - If you have added links to your site previously, you will see your list of course documents. Click on the Add Document button at the top of the page.
- Select your Document Title & Color.
- Enter your text including the link to the electronic resource or website that you would like to add to CourseInfo. Make sure that your link begins with "http://".
- Visit the Medical Library's website at http://www.medlib.bu.edu.
- Go to the grey tab at the top of the page titled "E-Resources" and click "E-Journals" (http://www.medlib.bu.edu/ejournals/).
- You will see an alphabetical listing of all of our electronic journals. Click on the letter range that corresponds to the title of the journal the you would like your students to access.
- Scroll down the list of journals and locate the title of the journal to which you wish to link.
- Click
. You will see a link to the publisher's website for the journal.
- Hold your mouse over the link and either CTRL + click or right click on the link. Select "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link". This is the link that you will paste into CourseInfo.
- **Please be aware that all publisher websites look and work very differently. For example, if you are accessing a journal through Ovid, students will need to log into Ovid using their individual Ovid username and password.
Please encourage your students to contact a Reference Librarian if they have trouble locating journal articles at refquest@bu.edu or (617) 638-4228. - Below the textbox, change the radio button from Smart Text to Plain Text.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Submit.
**Please note that the link in the citation above links only to the journal's website and not to the journal article itself. To fully comply with copyright restrictions, students will need to navigate to the specific journal article based on the volume and issue number that you provided in the citation. To locate the URL for a licensed electronic journal:
** Please note: without permission from the publisher, you can only add direct links to the journal title page, not links to specific articles or PDFs, in CourseInfo.
Your link has now been added to CourseInfo.
