Current Boston University Medical Campus faculty, staff, and students may now use the Medical Campus proxy server to
access licensed electronic resources from computers that are
located off-campus. These resources include electronic journals,
textbooks, bibliographic databases, and other Web-based
resources that are accessible from the Library's Web site, at http://www.medlib.bu.edu/library/elecres.html.
The Medical Campus proxy server allows you to configure your Web browser to emulate a Boston University IP (Internet Protocol) address, making your off-campus computer appear as though it were on-campus, allowing access to restricted, licensed resources. In the past, eligible off-campus users could dial into the campus network using the Boston University Internet CD. The Medical Campus proxy server is an alternative to using the CD, saving long-distance charges for those who live outside the 617- area code, and allowing users to maintain their current Internet service providers.
For more information about the Medical Campus proxy server or library resources that are
restricted for use via the proxy server, go to http://www.medlib.bu.edu/library/medproxy.html, or
contact a Reference Librarian at 617-638-4228 or
refquest@med-libwww.bu.edu. For information and detailed directions on configuring your Web browser to use the proxy server, go to http://www.bu.edu/proxy/configure.html.
