BUMC MEDLINE PLUS WINDOWS VERSION
If you are using the BUMC MEDLINE Plus terminals located in the library, a cover sheet will accompany each print job. The cover sheet indicates from which computer the print job was originated. If you plan on printing multiple citations, try batching your print jobs so that less paper is wasted. Then use the mouse to select the set you want to print, and press the print button.
The basic features of the "print dialog" box are: When you choose options, you will go through two screens to change an option. The first screen lists the
available options. The second screen enables you to make the change. After you have changed the option, click OK to process the print request.

The range indicator shows the available range of documents (for example, "From 1 to 31"). You may modify these
numbers to print a different range (for example, "From 4 to 17"), within the allowable total limit of documents to print.
This number displays the maximum number of citations that can be printed in each set. The default is set to a maximum of 125 citations per print job.
This number is displayed to remind you of the total number of documents in the set.
When you click on the checkbox, a copy of the search strategy will be added to the first page of your printout. To have your strategy printed with the documents, tab to the checkbox and press the
spacebar or use the mouse to click on the "include strategy" option.
Click OK when you are finished setting the parameters in the dialog box and wish to send the
documents to the printer.
Choose options to display the available formatting options such as number of lines per page, the default fields, output format and desired sort. The output formats option includes the
"reprint" format, which is a tagged format suitable for downloading into citation managers, and "ovid" format, which is
the same format that you view on-screen. The desired sort option allows you to indicate whether you want the citations printed chronologically or in reverse chronological order; alphabetically A-Z or Z-A by author, title or journal name; etc.

DOWNLOADING CITATIONS
Downloading citations to a disk is a useful alternative to printing if the printers are busy, if you want to save time, or if you want to incorporate the citations into another software program. Downloading is also useful for capturing search results when the total number of citations exceeds the printing maximum of no more than 125 citations. To download citations, first click on file at the top of the screen, then click on save.
Select save documents.
In the "save documents" dialog box, use the tab key to move between the
various options, or use the mouse to click the option you wish to change. Click OK or press enter to begin downloading.
When you choose options, you will go through two screens to change an option. The first screen lists the
available options.
The second screen enables you to make the change. After you have changed the option, click OK to begin downloading. Upon completion, the system will verify the location and name of the downloaded file.

E-MAILING CITATIONS
Citations can be sent via electronic mail to any person, anywhere in the world, who has a valid electronic mail address. To e-mail citations, click on file at the top of the screen, then click on save.
Select save documents.
Then select the set to be e-mailed, and press the save button.
At the "save documents" dialog box, select email citations and modify any other relevant options such as output format or desired sort. Click OK to go to the "client email recipient" screen.
The "client email recipient" dialog box allows you to enter the full electronic mail address of the recipient or recipients. Click OK to begin the e-mail process, which will take a few seconds. You will then receive a confirmation that the citations have been sent.

The citations column lets you choose which citations to output. You can choose the currently displayed citations, all the citations in your
current set, or only those citations you
have selected.
The fields column lets you select how much information to include for
each citation. The "Select Fields" choice presents you with a list of all
fields available in the database, from which you can select any
combination to output.
The citation format column determines the appearance of the
citations.
Select "Ovid" unless you know that you need another format (i.e.,
use "reprint" format for reference management software).
If you want to include your complete search strategy with the
output, click the include search history checkbox.
The save format column allows you to select the version of ASCII
text necessary for DOS/Windows, Macintosh or UNIX operating systems.
The sort options let you determine if the output is to be manipulated into
a specific order. The primary key lets you pick the main sort option,
e.g., author, date, etc. The secondary key is used only when two or
more records have the same primary key. For example, if you selected
"author" as the primary key, you could select "date" as the secondary
key. This would sort documents by the same author in date order.
The action column lets you click a button to output your selected
documents.
To print the citations, click the display button.
Another option is to choose file then print from the file manager menu. Click OK to complete the print job.
